CTET Paper 2 Syllabus

CTET Paper 2 Exam Pattern 2024

If you are looking for a teaching job vacancy for classes 6 to 8th, then you must have qualified CTET paper 12 at least 60% marks. CTET paper 2 is based on objective questions which contains total 150 questions. Each question carries one mark and hence the total number of marks are 150.
This paper is divided in 4 sections:
  1. Child Development and Pedagogy
  2. Mathematics and Science OR Social Studies
  3. Language I
  4. Language-II
First, Third and Fourth section contains 30 questions each. Section 2 contains 60 questions. As you know, one question is equivalent to one mark, so it's very important to study all the above sections carefully to get the highest mark in the seated paper 1 exam.




First section is common for all the aspirants. Section 2 is optional between mathematics and science group and Social studies group students. Section 3 and 4 are different for the aspirants based on language chosen for language I and language II while feeling the application form.

CTET Paper 2 Syllabus 2024

The tentative syllabus for CTET paper 2 is given below for each of the five sections.

I. Child Development and Pedagogy 30 Questions

The first section child development and pedagogy contains 30 questions. These questions are formed from three different aspects of CDP. The three aspects are given below:

a) Child Development(Elementary School Child) 15 Questions
  • Concept of development and its relationship with learning
  • Principles of the development of children
  • Influence of Heredity & Environment
  • Socialization processes: Social world &children(Teacher, Parents, Peers)
  • Piaget, Kohlberg and Vygotsky: constructs and critical perspectives
  • Concepts of child-centered and progressive education
  • Critical perspective of the construct of Intelligence
  • Multi-Dimensional Intelligence
  • Language & Thought
  • Gender as a social construct; gender roles, gender-bias and educational practice
  • Individual differences among learners, understanding differences based on diversity of language, caste, gender, community, religion etc.
  • Distinction between Assessment for learning and assessment of learning; School-Based Assessment, Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation: perspective and practice
  • Formulating appropriate questions for assessing readiness levels of learners; for enhancing learning and critical thinking in the classroom and for assessing learner achievement.
b) Concept of Inclusive education and understanding children with special needs 5 Questions
  • Addressing learners from diverse back grounds including disadvantaged and deprived
  • Addressing the needs of children with learning difficulties, “impairment‟ etc.
  • Addressing the Talented, Creative, Specially abled Learners 
c) Learning and Pedagogy 10 Questions
  • How children think and learn; how and why children„ fail‟ to achieve success in school performance.
  • Basic processes of teaching and learning; children’s strategies of learning; learning as a social activity; social context of learning.
  • Child as a problem solve rand a “scientific investigator‟
  • Alternative conceptions of learning in children, understanding children’s “errors‟ as significant steps in the learning process.

  • Motivation and learning
  • Factors contributing to learning-personal & environmental

II. Mathematics and Science 60 Questions

The second section is mathematics and science. There are 30 questions from mathematics and 30 questions from science in this section. This section is also contains the questions from following topics:

Mathematics contain 20 questions from number system, algebra, geometry, mensuration, data handling and 10 question from pedagogical issues in mathematics.

Reading unseen passages-two passages one prose or drama and one poem with questions on comprehension, inference, grammar and verbal ability (Prose passage may be literary, scientific, narrative or discursive)

Pedagogy of Language Development 15 Questions

  • Role of listening and speaking; function of language and how children use
  • IT as a tool
  • Critical perspective on the role of grammar in learning a language for communicating ideas verbally and in written form;
